In the Subway
Pharaoh

Alex felt that it would be easier to bear the unimportant existence he lead in this life, would he only know for sure of some powerful existence in a previous life.

Communication

Alex thought people were like translating machines, or, more, translating organisms. Translating something through their bodies. Only, what was it that they were translating?
Puppy

Alex suddenly understood why everyone loved puppies. They reminded one of ones true self, of the innocent, free, jolly, lively spirits we really are.

The Whale

The whale tried his best to jump to the rhythm of “We Will Rock You”, but when they started playing “Cotton Eye Joe” he had to give up.
bus stop

Alex considered himself to be quite a balanced person. That is, when he was not overcome by a sense of utter meaninglessness.
Swimming with Flippers cousin Flipper

Alex found swimming with dolphins somewhat disappointing. Maybe he had expected something more magical, something divine-like. Maybe a dolphin induced enlightenment of some sort.
Alex meets the Archetypes

Alex had been keenly interested in psychology as long as he could remember. But is wasn’t until he stumbled upon Jung and those archetypes of his, that his interest seriously turned into an adventure not only of an intellectual kind, but of a sort one could only describe as “spielbergerism-of-the-mind”. All of a sudden he understood, quite literary, that E.T. was indeed within all of us. Oh, he thought, after the somewhat unexpected but not unwelcome meeting, this collective unconscious certainly puts life in a strange new light. A light he had been looking for.

Misery

As a writer, Alex found himself spending most of his time laying flat on the floor in a miserable puddle of self-pity. At this point though, he couldn’t quite enjoy his own misery as much as he once had.

In a Stetson State of Mind

Alex felt strangely self-confident wearing his elegant new Stetson cap. No wonder the peoples of all times and cultures have had a fondness and a taste for fashionable headdress. It made one feel at liberty to think and do as one may please. Free even, free to strut.
The Coffee Shop Epiphany
chakra & chair

Alex wondered if his painful backache was a result of the newly purchased office chair or if he still had second-chakra related problems he needed to work on.

Portrait Flying Bee Mashine

There was a flying competition in The Land Of The Other Side. Cockroach and his Flying Sailing Boat were taking the lead but Caroline and her Giant Bee were not far behind.

Bottled up

Alex felt like he was stuck in a glass bottle in the middle of the ocean somewhere. And there was no way to get out.

Some Kind Of Monster

After watching Metallica’s documentary “Some kind of Monster”, Alex found he couldn’t stop thinking of Lars Ulrich’s dad Torben, who surely must be the coolest dude in the universe. In an attempt to look a bit more guru-like himself, Alex decided to grow a beard. He had no doubt that he would look almost as great as Torben, if not even better. The problem was, as he noticed after a couple of days, that his beard-growth didn’t quite cooperate with his vision of himself.

Alex’ Tattoo

Alex couldn’t hide his disappointment when Caroline was finished painting his fake tattoo. He had imagined something darker, something to match his destructive side. Like a scull or a pair of coupling snakes accompanied by the words “HELL FOREVER”.

The Owl

The Owl was fond of cruising with his balloon. He’d just float around happily, above the treetops, not knowing where the wind of the day would take him.

Lonely

The ladybug had never been a very social person but lately he didn’t even feel strong enough to talk to his closest friends. He was just so scared of being rejected. To tell you the truth, he felt as though the whole world was somehow against him. Like everyone else was mysteriously connected, everyone but himself. I am an outsider, he thought, and strangely enough, that thought made everything seem just a little bit better.

Caroline & Alex

Alex, the bird, was very aware of his looks and could never leave Caroline alone while she was drawing him. Either he complained his beak was too small or his feet looked too big. Secretly, he was acutely concerned people would get the wrong impression and maybe not understand his natural good looks and rugged manliness and think him quite a geek of a bird. Which, of course, couldn’t be further from the truth. At least according to himself.
